Soap is a product that we can‘t imagine our day without and which we probably think we already know everything about. However, we want to tell you about this wonderful miracle of cosmetics in even more detail and a little from a different perspective so that you know for sure what a valuable remedy it is.
It is likely that the soap path began as a by-product of cooking: when the meat was fried on a fire, the fat went into the ashes and the result was a slippery substance. Then, over time, the locals noticed that it perfectly removes dirt from the skin and clothing and thus began to improve this material and use it to facilitate their daily lives.
Various historical documents, including papyrus and clay tablets, confirm that the Babylonians were already making it around 2800 BC. They made soap for themselves and their families, only in a rather primitive form, mixing water, alkali and fat.
Over time, knowledge about making soap spread to all civilizations. In the Middle Ages, vegetable oil-based soaps were praised for their softness and pleasant smell, as a luxury item they began to be used among the privileged classes and there were cases when they were used as currency as well.
During the First and Second World Wars, due to the shortage of fats and oils, synthetic detergents (soaps) that are well known to us were developed and appeared on the market.
Here are some differences between regular commercial and natural soap.
Conventional commercial soaps are usually produced using:
- Synthetic surfactants (such as SLS, SLES);
- Are toxic to water ecosystems;
- Chemicals are added to extract color and smell;
- May irritate the skin, cause skin diseases.
Meanwhile, natural soaps are made:
- From natural fats and oils;
- Environmentally friendly;
- Safe for the skin;
- It contains naturally occurring glycerin;
- Enriched with botanical ingredients and essential oils.
Today, consumers are becoming more aware of the potential health risks associated with synthetic ingredients used in conventional soaps, and natural soaps are becoming more and more valuable. We hope it was interesting and we invite you to try our wonderful soaps!
